The residents now claim that they fear for their health, owing it to the crisis that has forced them to collect water from unsafe sources.

However, two legislators from the area have asked the county government to immediately issue and restore revoked licenses of over 2,500 water vendors.

Addressing water venders in Mombasa on Tuesday, Nyali MP Hezron Awiti and his Changamwe counterpart Mwinyi Omar noted with concern that the county government should act immediately to save the county residents from the crisis.

The duo said that they will not sit and watch as their people wallow in challenges that can be solved by the county.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho cancelled the licenses over accusations of local water vendors exploiting residents. This in turn led to a massive water crisis as the residents solely depend on the vendors for their daily water supply.

Residents now fear contracting Hepatitis A and other waterborne diseases if the current situation is not addressed in time.

Meanwhile, the Mombasa County Secretary Francis Thoya has said businessmen selling bottled water without quality mark by KEBS shall be arrested and prosecuted.

This comes after five bottling companies at the Coastal town had their services suspended for failing to observe proper hygiene.
