The County Government of Uasin Gishu has launched its water policy to guide projects for the provision of the essential commodity.
The County has water provision as among priority agendas even as Governor Jackson Mandago completes his second term.
Already, the county has sunk over 70 boreholes, with launching in progress.
Also, the county has mapped and earmarked for disilting and sinking of over 300 dams.
Speaking as he launched the policy on behalf of governor Mandago, Road and Energy County Executive, Eng Gideon Birir, said the guidelines came at the right time when water is the priority.
"The County Government of Uasin Gishu has prioritized water in this second term. The Governor is so passionate about this," said Birir.
Earlier, about 30 tree seedlings had been planted at Mumetet Primary School. Environment County Executive was among the attendants.
The policy was launched after commissioning the Merewet Water Project, one of the boreholes, primed to serve up to three villages, schools, and health facilities.
The water project uses solar to pump out water. The water policy pulls together the departments of Agriculture, Environment and that of Water to a collective agenda.
The policy aims to connect up to 85 percent of households across the county.
The launch comes as the world marked the World Water Day. The policy also highlights how the county plans to sensitize on water harvesting, with county institutions set to start off the program.
The county also, the policy discloses, targets to plant 500,000 trees in this year.
