After residents of Kiang’ombe slum complained over lack of water for three days now following a disconnection at Kairi, the residents can now breathe again after water was re-connected.

Speaking to this Hivisasa writer on Sunday, most of them lamented that they had no water storage tanks and thus were most affected after the disconnect.

"I am used to receiving tap water daily, a reason I cannot purchase a water tank. I am however worried that for the last three days water has been scarce and Mataara water project staff were not in a position to re-connect over the weekend," Janet Wairimu a resident of Kiang’ombe lamented.

"Mataara Water Project is good and has served us consistently without inconveniences but after Kairi disconnect, we the residents of Kiang’ombe slums have suffered most as we cannot dig boreholes like residents who own their own land," Joseph Njuguna, a resident.

The residents were however happy on the Monday morning after the project manager Anthony Gachunga sent his staff to re-connect the water.

Residents thronged tap water stations at the slums in the morning after water was re-connected.

Speaking from Mataara Water Project offices, Gachunga thanked Kiang’ombe residents for their patience and further explained that he had to purchase three water valves in Nairobi over the weekend which was not in the office in the time of disconnect.

"The water had been disconnected at Gathiri, Kairi village where two water valves were missing. I was even forced to make an impromptu journey to Nairobi where I purchased three of them. Am happy that our staff got to work early and re-connected the water," he said.
