Nyamira County residents  for the last three months have been experiencing acute water shortage due to unpaid electricity bills.

Vendors have taken advantage of the situation to sell water to locals at Sh30 per a 20 litre container.

"We are now forced to buy water at expensive prices from vendors. The county government seems to be comfortable with the situation because water taps are dry since there is no electricity to pump water," said Mary Morema, a resident at  Nyamira Town.

She accused other residents for failing to pay their electricity bills and bills to water supply company  something that prompted the disconnection of water.

"Some residents' failure to pay bills has caused us suffering. If they can't afford they should say so that they be disconnected from the water taps for those who afford to continue enjoying the services", she added.

This is the second time in year the county has experienced prolonged water shortage.

But in his past addresses, Governor John Nyagarama has maintained that he will ensure water shortages becomes a past problem.
