The water problem in Garissa continues to bite, with the government not able to provide a solution.

The situation has not been helped by the dry conditions, with rains having gone for a long time now.

The areas most affected are Imbalambala, Ijara, and Daadab.

Families have been affected by lack of the precious commodity, with the little salty water not able to fully cover the situation.

Area leaders led by Imbalambala MP Ahmed Shurie have initiated water trucking programmes, delivering the commodity to most affected areas.

“The water tracking has been going on since August. We were hoping we will have some short rains which would relieve us, but now again we are back to square one again and it will go on until we get rains,” he said.

There is hope that the project that is done in conjunction with the Chinese government will go a long way in helping even students remain in school.

“We are distributing 30 water tanks; we have 10 which are 10,000 litres and 20 which are 10,000 litres. We leave a minimum of 10,000 litres in a village,” he added.

The locals have thanked the MP and other leaders for the project but would want a permanent solution.
