Residents of Kawethei in Machakos county are facing a possible drought despite the measures by county government to dig boreholes to supply water to them.
Speaking to this writer, a section of the residents pointed out they have been walking to long distances to look for water.
They say water has become a scarce commodity in the area whereby they are forced to wake up early and walk almost to Kangundo town to get water from a vendor who sells 20 litres of water at 10-20 shillings something which is costly to the residents.
"We wake up early and walk almost to Kangundo town at Masewani whereby there is a water vendor who sells the 20 litres jerrican at 10-20 shillings and it's really a big burden to us because it is expensive and also you can not carry many jerrycans at a go, said Lilian a local resident.
The residents further say that there was a borehole which was dug by the Machakos county government near the Kawethei market but it did not have water and the people who were digging left and returned.
"There was a time the county government was digging a borehole near the market but it did not have water and they left left never to come back," explains Soi, a businessman in the market.
The residents now are calling out to the Machakos county government to come back and look for another place to dig a borehole because they are suffering.
