Matuu, Mavoko, Tala, Masinga and Machakos town area are the most affected areas in the county with the residents in the Town centre being the hardest hit with a 20-litre container retailing at up to Sh 30.

Be it as it may, the county's Water and Irrigation Director Kioko Luka hinted that the county government has taken measures to improve water supply in the county.

"Part of the money will be used to support required infrastructure for provision of water in villages throughout the county. We are drilling more boreholes and building dams that will be used in harvesting water. This will ensure as many people as possible are connected to water supply," Luka said while addressing the issue on Monday.

This is contrary to the county's deputy Governor Bernard Kiala who has attributed the biting water shortage to poor planning by the county government saying that residents continue to suffer yet the county government has spent about Sh 5 billion on water projects since it came to power.
