Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti on Saturday pleaded with Kitui West residents to vote for Edith Nyenze in Monday's by-election.
Ndeti while campaigning for Vethi at Kitheka market in Kitui County said that the latter has the qualities to take over leadership as an MP.
The Wiper politician said electing Vethi will be honoring her late husband and former Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze.
She said the constituency needs a leader who understands the issues facing locals on the ground.
"We have confidence in Vethi and we know if elected she will not abscond on her duties as a Member of Parliament," Ndeti said.
Ndeti who was joined by Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu asked locals not to be swayed by politicians who will run away from their duties if elected.
The two leaders asked locals to turn out in large numbers and vote on Monday.
53,000 registered voters are expected to cast their votes in the by-election.
According to Kitui West Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer James Mbai, preparations for the by-election are complete.
Mbai on Saturday told journalists that the 143 polling centres will open at 6.00am and close at 5.00pm.
Five candidates are battling for the seat that was left vacant after the death of Francis Nyenze.
Nyenze died on December 6, 2017 after a long battle with colon cancer.
