Wiper gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti has said he holds no grudge against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for blocking her from contesting.
Ndeti who spoke after the High Court overturned an IEBC’s Tribunal ruling barring her from running for the seat said the electoral agency should have consulted further before blocking her.
The IEBC dispute resolution committee had defended its decision to bar the Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) leader from vying arguing that she employed political mischief, which was hatched by the Wiper Party to circumvent party resignation laws, as she did not qualify to contest under the party.
“IEBC needs to be fair. If they could have consulted the Registrar of Political Parties, we could not have reached here (in court). Today it has been seen that Kenya is bigger than Wafula Chebukati and IEBC. All this conflict is now in the past and I have forgiven IEBC," Ndeti said after the landmark ruling on Wednesday.
She urged the electoral body to be independent in executing their duties by refusing to be swayed by any external interests and allow the will of the people to prevail in the August 8, 2017, election.
"I urge them to conduct free and fair elections in August. I also want to thank people of Machakos for standing strong with me,” Ndeti added.
