A section of MCAs from Nyamira and Kisii counties who honoured an invitation to visit State House have downplayed claims that they were planning to decamp from Cord to Jubilee.
President Uhuru on Thursday hosted over 80 ward representatives from the two counties, a move that elicited sharp debate among Gusii residents with some opposing while others backed them.
But Nyamira County Assembly majority leader Laban Masira and his Kisii County counterpart Protus Moindi, both from the ODM, dismissed the claims, and defended the move saying they have been okayed by the party structures.
“We are ODM leaders and whenever we have such an invitation, we consult widely and arrive the decision. We are in ODM to stay perhaps till some of us retire,” Masira said at a news briefing at Orange House, Nairobi.
He added: “The State House visit was all about discussing development and nothing else. We gave our conditions and fortunately nobody went against them because we came from different parties hence discussing politics could have not been ideal.”
Moindi on his part said the MCAs were optimistic that the ODM would form the next government, and vowed to stay focused on their State House quest.
“Uhuru is the Head of State and when he invites us, we can’t ignore. We discussed development matters and nothing else. We are in ODM to stay and people can take that to the bank,” he said.
