Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)

has said that the tallying for the repeat presidential election is almost over and that they will announce the winner once they are through.

The commission on Sunday morning said it had received 256 of the 264 constituency results declaration forms from all regions that took part in the Thursday exercise.

The 264 are without 27 constituencies in the Nyanza counties of Migori, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Siaya.

The four failed to vote after a section of NASA supporters prevented IEBC officials from opening polling stations.

By midday, IEBC had verified 237 Forms 34B from the constituencies, with a voter total of 7,063,841 that translates to 43.39 per cent voter turnout.

"The Commission has received hard copy results from 256 constituencies. Two hundred and thirty-five have been verified and posted," the commission posted on its Twitter handle at midday.

The figure later went up.

Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati asked the returning officers to ensure they deliver the forms physically unlike in the annulled August 8 poll where the documents were sent to Bomas electronically before they were downloaded and verified by IEBC without going through individual constituency results one by one as is the case now.
