Leading in the calls for the grilling of the security chief, Gilgil MP Martha Wangari said they will push for the summon of Matiang'i and police boss Joseph Boinnet. The lawmaker was speaking during Njoroge's burial in Nakuru county.

"We as parliament shall summon the CS and the IG for this heinous murder that has left a family in pain and the university management should be investigated," said Wangari.

Wangari together with other leaders from the area attacked Matiang'i and Boinnet for remaining silent even after it was alleged that Njoroge was shot at a close range by a police officer during the demonstrations.

Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui echoed Wangari's sentiments and even said he was willing to institute a private prosecution against the police officer who killed Njoroge.

However, Igembe Central MP Cyprian Kubai defended Matiang'i and Boinnet saying the problem lies in the Meru University management which he termed as being dictatorial and that it should be investigated.
