There has been health concerns by people living at the downstream of River Athi who rely on the river to get water for domestic use.

The industrial effluent can be very dangerous for both the people and animals. The two legislators hosted a public hearing on the effects of the pollution of Athi River before the Parliamentary Committee on Environment, Mineral and Natural Resources at Assistant County Commissioner's office, Katangi. 

Several environmental agencies including Warma, Nema and Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources also attended the hearing.

The legislators also led the delegation to the river banks to view the polluted water that has negatively affected the residents.
