Thika traffic commander has decried the few police officers manning Thika town roads and its surroundings.
Speaking to reporters in her office, Apelles Chacha observed that accidents in Thika have been on the rise. She lamented the irresponsible nature of drivers in the areas which she termed as non-caring.
“I have observed the carelessness of drivers in this town. My officers have filed many cases regarding speeding, excess passengers and even damaged vehicles,” she said.
The officer attributed the daily accidents to speeding drivers, few traffic officers, narrow roads, damaged vehicles and reckless driving.
She however noted that Thika municipal council should chip in and help control traffic in the area.
“We are planning road safety sensitisation campaigns that will accommodate the general public. I am doing everything in my capacity to halt the challenges,” she added.
Her remarks come after members of the public recorded complaints over recent two accidents that happened in three days in Thika town.
Members of the public have been urged to report cases of recklessness on roads, excess passengers and damaged vehicles.
