The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has insisted that it is an independent body and that nodody should try to force it to take action on its employees.

This is in response to the increased calls by the National Super Alliance (NASA) leadership calling for the immediate sacking of the commission's CEO Ezra Chiloba.

According to NASA leader Raila Odinga, the opposition will not take part in the coming elections unless Chiloba is fired.

However, IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati has insisted that they will not take directions from the public concerning whom to work with at the agency.

"The commission reiterates its independence as a constitutional body under Article 249 and calls on parties to desist from directing it on issues related to its personnel," Chebukati said.

Chebukati added that the commission is currently studying the Supreme Court verdict and will soon launch criminal investigations on a number of returning officers thought to have undertaken the illegalities.
