Police Spokesperson Charles Owino on Saturday said his office had not received any report regarding the alleged plan to kill the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss.

“From where I sit, I am not aware of any report of threats regarding Mr Atwoli. I will contact him for clarification,” Owino said when contacted by a local daily.

The police boss added: "The government is big and it is not easy to know who in the government is aware of the reports by the official."

Atwoli on Saturday claimed his life was in danger after he received ‘confidential’ information that ‘some people in politics’ are planning to ‘eliminate’ him over his recent comments about making amendments to the Constitution.

Speaking during a brief press conference in Kisumu, he alleged that a group of assassins has already been hired to do the job adding the government had assured him of his safety after reporting the matter.

"There is a threat. Some few individuals, either in leadership or politicians, have hired four hit men to eliminate me within a week. I have already shared it with the government and got assurance of protection," said Atwoli speaking at Tom Mboya Labour College.
