The Nyeri CEC in charge of Transport Mr. Muthui Kariuki has said that the County Government of Nyeri will continue with plans to give the late Governor Wahome Gakuru a decent burial despite contestation from Kisumu County Governor Anyang Nyong'o that his County will not contribute the sh.100,000 that each county was requested to donate for the burial as per the Council of Governors.
Speaking in Nyeri, the County Burial Committee spokesperson noted that the arrangements for the ceremony are in top gear.
The late Governor Gakuru will be accorded a state funeral, he added.
This will entail the Central Government taking charge of the proceedings at the funeral which is being co-ordinated from Jogoo house.
The spokesperson also noted that the swearing-in ceremony for the new Governor is slated after the burial on the request of the Governor-elect.
Speaking at the forum, the County Legal Officer Mr. David Mugo urged the residents to shun any gossip and focus on giving Governor Gakuru a decent send-off.
He appealed to the residents to remain united and pray for the Country during this difficult moment.
