The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has said that they are not to blame for the ongoing nurses' strike currently on its fourth month.

According to the SRC vice chairman, Daniel Ogutu, told a parliamentary committee that nurses are using the commission as a scapegoat to justify their strike.

Ogutu further asserted that the industrial action is not about money, noting that there could be a hidden agenda by the striking health workers.

He remarked that nurses are adamant to push for the formation of their own professional commission similar to the Teachers Service Commission that would manage their welfare.

The nurses' strike which begun on June has seen a complete paralysis of the health sector, with the nurses' union pushing for better pay.

Earlier in the week, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi linked the strike to the Jubilee administration, claiming that the government was solely responsible for nurses downing their tools.
