In what appeared to be the last press briefing intended at reassuring the public over the security apparatus readiness to avoid a recap of the 2007/08 violence, the administrator said they will not leave anything to chance.

“All the 1027 polling stations and tallying centers will be staffed by our security agencies whose presence should not be misunderstood to be aimed at disfranchising voters,” he reassured.

Njega stated that they have adopted a multi-agency approach working with various organizations like the Health facilities, civil society, Fire fighting agencies, and Red Cross for Humanitarian assistance.

He quickly clarified that all these alertness are contingency plans which should not pose any threat to citizen or electorate for that matter.

The Regional Commissioner disclosed that for the contingency preparation he had received 100 body bags which was just part of the readiness for any eventuality going by the antiquity of this region during elections.

He reminded all public servants to stay non-partisan and should not engage in any campaign or take sides in political competitions.

Njega also assured journalists that they will get the full guard from security agencies and proceeded to urge local residents to vote peaceably then return home and wait for the final declaration.

“No journalist will access any polling stations and tallying centers if they are not duly accredited by the IEBC,” he cautioned the press.
