Matungulu chief Julias Mathei has said that the government has intensified their fight against burglary in the area which has been on the rise recently. The area chief was speaking at Matungulu chief headquarters during a community baraza on Sunday afternoon and said that most of the break-in incidents are taking place between 9 pm and four in the morning. He has however praised the residents who he says have been keen on community policing especially now that most people are enjoying their festive holidays.“The residents have been providing information to the OCPD and other administrators who in turn instructs his officers to rush to the ground and attend to the reported cases. This has helped many people who would otherwise have been robbed of their property,” he said. The residents have also expressed their satisfaction with how the police have been handling the matters when reported to them.“We appreciate the cooperation that now exists between us and the police especially after the security apparatus posted here. We have seen a big difference,” Catherine Ngina, a shopkeeper says. The Inspector General of police, Joseph Boinnet, announced earlier in the year that the police service would re-introduce community policing to enhance security in the country as one of the reforms within the Kenyan police service.
