President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government has been warned of mass demonstrations should he delay exit of embattled IEBC commissioners from office.
The commissioners are expected to leave office and pave way for new officers after a mutual consent by a joint National Assembly and Senate committee.
Speaking to the reporter, nominated Senator Janet Ong’era maintained that the opposition was ready to mobilise its supporters over IEBC demos should the current commissioners continue staying in office.
“The tenure of IEBC officials ended the moment Senate-National Assembly committee released its report. No one should continue staying in office and the government must know that we are ready for demonstrations if the officials are not paid their package," she said.
“For now we should be planning on how to replace them and not how they should get out of office. The president should address this issue once and for all. We are in a mature democracy where we cannot tolerate delay tactics,” she added.
Ong’era also accused unnamed persons within the office of the president for allegedly sabotaging reforms in the country.
“Most of the challenges we face as a nation the president has nothing to do with them. There is a cartel which compromises his judgments and time has come for him to kick them out,” she said.
