The defection of Karachuonyo MP James Rege to Jubilee Party has led leaders from the area to apologise to ODM leader Raila Odinga following.
The leaders said they were apologising to their party leader over Rege’s betrayal.
In a statement signed by ODM Karachuonyo chair Teddy Ogolla and his Secretary Francis Ogolla, the leaders said, “We are very sorry as ODM officials and the entire fraternity to party leader Raila Odinga for the betrayal of our rogue MP James Gordon Kwanya Rege.”
Rege officially defected from ODM to Jubilee on Saturday during the party’s launch. The defection caused a ruckus in his constituency.
The leaders now want the party to organise a by-election to replace Rege.
“Consequently we call on the ODM hierarchy to organise and facilitate a by-election for Karanchuonyo so that we can have a representative in parliament,” they said.
Rege joins other ODM-allied legislators who have defected to the newly-launched Jubilee Party. They include Kwale women representative Zainab Chidzuga, Governor Salim Mvurya, Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro, Sirisia’s John Waluke and Kilifi’s Mustafa Idd among others.
Raila has dismissed the defections saying they will not shake ODM.
