Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has laughed off Opposition alliance NASA's threat to boycott the forthcoming general elections if Presidential election results will not be announced at the Constituency level.
Speaking on Wednesday in Muthaiga, the outspoken CS said the country will hold polls as scheduled even if the Opposition fails to participate.
He further noted that elections can only be stopped by the Supreme Court through a legal process.
“The only thing that can stop elections is a legal process. If the Supreme Court rules that we cannot do the election, then we shall abide by that ruling but not mere intimidation,” he said.
NASA on Tuesday cautioned electoral agency IEBC against proceeding with its appeal against a ruling issued last month by the High Court allowing presidential election results to be announced at the Constituency level.
“We, therefore, demand that IEBC respects the decision of the High Court and withdraw the appeal,” Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama demanded during a press briefing on Tuesday in Mombasa.
