The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has vowed to discharge its duties without intimidation following the mysterious disappearance of Simon Lilan, an Eldoret-based lawyer who had filed a lawsuit seeking to stop the burial of former Nominated MP Mark Too.
In a telephone interview with the Star newspaper on Thursday, LSK Chair Rift Valley Chapter Frank Mwangi expressed fears that the disappearance of Lilan would undermine the independence of the judiciary, adding that lawyers are discharging their duties in accordance to the law.
"Lawyers should be allowed to do their work peacefully and without any threats. We as lawyers are discharging our duties in accordance with the law and should be left free to work,” he said.
“We we do not want to prejudice investigations but we will speak once they have been completed. We fear these kind of incidents will undermine the independence of the judiciary and the legal profession," he added.
Lilan reportedly went missing on Monday according to family members. He had also expressed interest in the Uasin Gishu County Senatorial seat in the August polls.
