Over 6,500,000 people participated in the October 26 polls.

This has been revealed by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, who has indicated that 6,553,858 kenyans voted, from 267 constituencies.

In a tweet on his twitter account, Chebukati said they will be giving the actual figures of the number who voted, as they were still receiving more figures.

On Thursday evening, the commission indicated that 35,564 polling stations were opened on Thursday morning, which was a good percentage of the 40,883 centres countrywide.

Mr Chebukati also said that 5,319 polling stations did not send an opening message, indicating that either no voting took place or they had no access to network.

Voter turnout was low in most areas, with the exercise called off in some counties after the locals turned hostile.

The commission had to cancel voting in Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya, and will now be done on Saturday.

Chebukati however said they will need to find a solution in case the problem persisted past Saturday.
