Speaking at a press conference in Kisumu on Friday, the officials accused Wetangula of mismanaging the party and had never organised a delegates conference to pick a presidential candidate.

The conference turned chaotic after delegates aligned to the party leader shouted down those opposed to Wetangula’s rule.

Led by Trans Nzoia Acting Chairman Ken Wafula, the rebellious delegates gave Wetangula a total of 14 days to convene a National Delegate Conference with the main agenda being election of new officials and threatened to convene the meeting themselves if Wetangula failed to meet the ultimatum.

"You cannot be the president of the country by focusing your campaigns in your own county," said Lupesia Isomeso, the Nairobi County chairman.

Isomeso also criticized appointment of Kakamega senator Bhoni Khalwale as deputy party leader and said it was not procedural.

"We are not against Khalwale because he is a vibrant leader who can help us in our quest to strengthen the party but Wetangula has no powers to appoint him. Democracy should have been allowed to take cause," added Isomeso.
