Moi University has dismissed reports that it is offering fake courses.

The University's office of the secretary general, MUGSA, and the Directorate of Postgraduate studies informed all Postgraduate students, that they have been offering genuine courses, recognised by the Ministry of Education.

The institution said any program offered by the university, is usually thoroughly scrutinised by the respective department(s) before being tabled at Senate for approval.

"Afterwards the programs are forwarded to CUE for approval and registration. In that regard, therefore, some of the new programs are yet to be substantiated by the university to the Commission of University Education. This does not render the programs fake,'' said the institution.

In a statement, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Laban Ayiro assured all that over 240 programs at the university are approved by senate and, or CUE.

The VC said the so called fake programs were those that were under revision pending submission to the school's Senate or CUE.

"Sensational reporting only serves certain interests. We are a too serious university to offer fake programs let alone degrees. I want all stakeholders to know that at Moi we have purposed to do what is right," he said.

He added that they would be responding to the claims officially to CUE as per the instructions arising out of the audit.

''We are determined to put the record straight and I believe CUE will communicate the true position to the Kenyan public," said Ayiro, Monday.
