Uasin Gishu branch Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) director Kipkorir Arap Menjo has warned North Rift leaders against focusing on the 2022 politics.
The KFA director has instead asked elected leaders from the region to instead look for ways to help farmers.
Menjo said some politicians from the region have focused their energies on discussing the 2022 succession politics yet farmers are suffering.
“It sad that only Moiben MP Silas Tiren has been fighting for the rights of farmers but others only concentrate on politics at the expense of farmers. How will we be food secure if farmers rights are being ignored,” said Menjo in Eldoret town, Friday.
He lamented that farmers are facing challenges such as lack of fertilizers and their unpaid dues but none of the elected leaders is talking about.
“We have a sizeable number of Members of Parliament who could have fast-track the process of farmers getting fertilizers and also passing of the supplementary budget for farmers to be paid their dues but no one seems bothered. Let’s concentrate on making the lives of farmers better before embarking on the 2022 politics,” said the Uasin Gishu Kenya Farmers Association director.
He further challenged the National government to come out clearly and tell them if they will be able to supply more fertilizers if not they look for alternative means.
