Nairobi county commander Japheth Koome has said that police are not driven by the urge to cause physical injuries to fellow citizens during riots.

Speaking in Nairobi following the NASA anti-IEBC demos on Friday, Koome said that police officers are citizens like any other and have human feelings.

He said his officers are only forced to become violent on protestors when they (protestors) start breaking the law during their demos.

"We don't derive any pleasure in clobbering our fellow citizens. Not at all do we derive any happiness," he said.

"But do you want me to sit back and watch property destroyed? Do you want me to sit back and watch the beauty we are seeing destroyed?" he asked.
