Athi river sub-county deputy county commissioner Albert Kimathi has warned politicians not to engage in violent campaigns.
While addressing members of the public during Makadara day celebrations in Athi river, the commissioner, who was in full regalia, told politicians to tread carefully, lest they incite their supporters to choose violent means as a way of disagreeing.
"We want the 2017 campaigns to be peaceful. I, therefore, urge you "mheshimiwa" to distant yourself from violent campaigns," he said while addressing the guest of honour Patrick Makau.
The commissioner, who also read the president's speech, urged Mavoko youths to join productive ventures and not idle around the bushes of Kenya meat commission, KMC.
The commissioner, who was presiding over such an event for the first in Mavoko, mentioned youth unemployment, security and land issues as the main challenges facing the sub-county.
On a lighter note, he praised the residents of Athi river for turning in large numbers to celebrate Madaraka.
