Deputy President William Ruto has said that the Government has set measures of improving agricultural sector across the county by helping the farmers to embrace the new technology of farming.
Speaking on Friday at Gusii stadium during the opening of the agricultural show the Dp said that they are going to purchase 7,000 tractors which will help farmers across the county to improve farming.
The Deputy president also said that the Government is going to give 10 cooling plants to Kisii County which will help milk farmers with storage.
“As the Government, we have set measures of giving out 10 cooling machines to Kisii and Nyamira counties to help farmers,” Ruto said.
He also said that the Government will support the County Government of Kisii in their bid of Artificial Insemination so that farmers can get the semen for a subsidised prize.
“We commended the work done by county government that is introducing of artificial insemination, as the government we are going to ensure that the cost is reduced up to 100 from 500 by looking for away to reduce it," said Ruto.
The Deputy Presidents ordered the ministry of agriculture to establish a liquid nitrogen center which will help farmers get semen unlike when it was transported from Nairobi.
“I urge the ministry of agriculture together with the county Government of Kisii to identify a place where we will establish the center; we hope that the center will help us reduce the cost," said the DP.
