Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has said that the county government has managed to contain cholera disease which has hit the county claiming 16 lives.
“It was a great challenge but through the efforts of health officials we were able to stop it,” said Mbugua.
Speaking at Afraha stadium during Madraka Day’s celebrations, Mbugua called on residents to ensure that they observe hygiene at their home.
According to Mbugua the county government have 175 extension officers to carry out the anti cholera campaign throughout the county.
“They are conducting door to door surveys and talks on the disease. We have health workers on standby at Langalanga, KITI and Marigat,” noted Mbugua.
Mbugua also called on the residents to avoid ruining and destroying water pipes which often lead to the contamination of drinking water.
“We need to ensure that water being distributed in the county is clean and proper for human consumption,” said Mbugua.
Nakuru County Public health officer Samuel Kingori cited that 257 people have so far been treated for the disease.
“The current death toll still stands at 16 but we have been receiving new cases from Athinai, Marigat, Kaptwembwa and Subukia,” said Mbugua.
King’ori called on residents to report any cases of the disease, claiming that the late reporting is what had lead to the spread of the disease.
