The Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (Kuppet) officials in Kisumu County have denied accusations that they have signed a political agreement with a section of aspirants in the county.
Area Secretary General Zablon Awange, said teachers have their constitutional prerogative of choosing independently whom to support.
Awange criticised the individuals propagating reports that Kuppet was behind a specific political runner terming the information as unauthentic.
He said no political aspirant that has come to any of the union’s officials requesting for the teachers support in his/her effort to secure their election in the fourth coming August 8th general elections.
According to Awange, Kuppet officials had more important issues to give prioritise far from the political ventures.
“This will cause division among union members hence incapacitating the joint efforts we ought to conduct collectively,” said Awange.
He further indicated that there are teachers eyeing various political seats across the county.
He singled out five aspirants running for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) position in the county who are teachers by profession alluding that it would be a stumbling block on the move towards democracy if the Union agrees to be in support of either contender.
