Cord leader, Raila Odinga finished a weeklong tour of the Western Kenya region on Friday.
The trip saw him traverse the western counties to try and cool down supporters after a tumultuous few weeks in the party which have seen a number of senior Luhya leaders exit.
Despite some successes on the road, he admits that things are not all too rosy.
Raila told his advisers and aides that there is still a lot of work to be done to secure what is now a fractious Luhya vote.
"Raila knows that there is a problem and he is aware but for now he has done his best and we leave the rest to time and more effort," he stated.
ODM chairman, John Mbadi stated that the tour was a success.
"It was a weeklong tour and the objectives set out in the first place were all achieved," said the chair.
Another source close to the cord leader sated that he would try and bring back those MPs who dissented in the recent past, including Budalang'i MP, Ababu Namwamba and his Funyula counterpart, Paul Otuoma so as not to look like he is breaking up the party.
“He knows and accepts that there is a need to reconcile and unify the party and getting rid of some members will not help," the source added.
As far as his strategy going forward, more rallies and meetings are planned.
“The key is to ensure that there is more talk and action. There will be a lot of ODM speak in western Kenya for the next year because the opportunity to make things right is there but must not be taken for granted," another aide added.
Raila will now shift his focus to the Gusii region, which is another stronghold facing similar problems to the ones in Luhya Kenya.
