Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has reiterated his government's commitment to ensure that the county headquarters, Nakuru town, acquires a city status.

In a statement on his Facebook page Tuesday, the county chief who had earlier attended the Annual National Planners Convention, a forum aimed at deliberating on the development of counties, said that his leadership is keen on partnering with planners to facilitate the transition.

The event was also attended by his Kiambu counterpart Ferdinand Waititu and took place in the county.

''Together with my counterpart from Kiambu County Hon Ferdinand Waititu, I attended the Annual National Planners' Convention in Nakuru. The forum brings together planners from across the country to discuss counties’ spatial plans, local physical development plans, effective governance of cities and urban areas,'' wrote the Governor.

''As a county, we are keen on collaborating with planners as we work towards achieving a city status,'' he added.

Kinyanjui however observed that the ambition is being faced by a number of challenges including the town's geographical location.

He said that with the lakeside town also being in constant growth, the issue of spacing is another matter likely to cause a headache.

''Nakuru town faces serious expansion challenges owing to the fact that the town sits between Menengai Crater and Lake Nakuru National Park and it’s upon us to have proper planning to make good use of existing space and facilities,'' he added.
