Mombasa governor hopeful Suleiman Shahbal has accused Governor Hassan Joho of imposing himself on Mombasa residents.
Shahbal (Jubilee Party) is vying against Joho in one of the fiercest gubernatorial contests in the country. The prominent businessman accuses Joho of running down Mombasa by focusing at developing family businesses at the expense of county development. He said Joho would be “overthrown” on August 8.“The Sultan of Zanzibar, Sultan Jamshid bin Abdullah was overthrown in 1963 during the Zanzibar revolution, we must also summon courage and overthrow the false Sultan imposing himself on the people,” Shahbal said as he campaigned at Tononoka on Thursday.“If county workers don’t believe on his vision and leadership who are you to believe him? If the county workers have abandoned him, who are you to support him? A leader who can’t take care of his workers is a leader who can’t run the affairs of his people.”He said under his administration, if elected, he will professionalise county workers, improve their working conditions, give them incentives and build their capacity through retaining.Other candidates challenging Joho’s administration include Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti.
