Nairobi county deputy governor, Polycarp Igathe on Monday expressed his view for need to push for more day schools in Nairobi.
Igathe said the move will help parents and guardians take back control and direction of their children at home rather than when they stayed in boarding schools.
He maintained that the family will always remain the first teacher, government, church and disciplinarian to the kids.
The deputy governor blamed parents and guardians for relegating their responsibility to teachers at schools and house helps and distancing themselves from their children for that reason.
“We are pushing for day schools in Nairobi so that parents can take back control and direction of their children. The family is the first teacher, government, church and disciplinarian. We as parents have relegated this responsibility to teachers and house helps,” he said through a tweet.
The deputy governor noted that most children have embraced drug abuse and ill behaviors learnt from peer groups because of parents losing contact with their children.
He was speaking after hosting a meeting with education and youth stakeholders at his office in Nairobi.
