Speaking on Tuesday at the Akamba Handicraft Industry in Changamwe, the legislator said citizens require access to government services.

The MP said Kenyans need to be engaged in socio-economic activities to ensure they become self-reliant, and not the handouts being given out by politicians.

He further accused the government of sidelining Mombasa, saying the move has resulted in underdevelopment in the region.

“We do not need harambees. We only need the government to open the cheques books and give money for the revival of factories like the Kenya Petroleum Refinery,” he said, as quoted by The Star.

Omar also urged the government to invest in the health and education sectors, to ensure citizens receive the essential services they require.

“Issues of health are disturbing our people. You have to do harambees if your sick relatives stay in government hospitals for more than two weeks. So we need free health services and free education," he added.
