The candidature of nominated Senator Liz Chelule in the concluded Jubilee primaries did not attract much attention, but what many did not know is that it was a litmus test for the Kikuyu-Kalenjin union.
Multiple interviews have however laid bare the silent observations that were been made by her community in relation to a political marriage between the Kikuyus and the Kalenjins.
"We wanted to see whether our friends are serious with Ruto when it comes to 2022," Joseph Kipkemoi told this writer.
According to Kipkemoi, Chelule's candidature became an interest to the community 'because it was a measure on whether our friends can also vote our own'.
Chelule was facing several other aspirants all from the Kikuyu community and there were fears that 'despite Chelule having a larger political clout, the Kikuyu would vote their own'.
"We can now trust Kikuyus when they talk of voting Ruto in 2022. The moment were heard our daughter was leading even in Naivasha, we knew our neighbours are good guys now," Reuben Kimetto said.
Nakuru is a cosmopolitan area but Kikuyus dominate followed by the Kalenjins.
In 2013, all the county seats, that is Governor, Senator and Women Rep were all taken by Kikuyus.
