Speaking on Tuesday and Nyansiongo Township, Borabu secretary Pius Orina questioned the continued collection of taxes from Boda bada operators without improving their working environment.

His sentiments comes a day after tax collectors from Nyamira County endured a tough day following skirmishes by Mwongori Boda boda association members who chased them out of the region, accusing them of intimidation and arrogance.

Orina said the county government should build shades that would help motorbike operators to execute their work without interruption during rainy or sunny season.

“It amuses me that we have to pay about Sh300 per month without seeing services from the county government. It is quite unfair because people pay taxes to have their working conditions improved,” Orina said.

“We need to see motorbike shades that will help us conduct our businesses as usual without interruption during rainy or sunny season. The shades are urgently needed if at all the county government has respect for us,” he said.

He threatened to marshal his troops to defy payment of taxes untill the county government responded on their issues.

“It is easy to deal with them; we will refuse paying taxes till they improve our working conditions. In fact we will also challenge the current payment of Sh300 per month since it is too high for us given that most of us are just employees and not the owners,” he said.
