A section of Jubilee Party lawmakers have now claimed that it was evident the Opposition coalition NASA was not going to participate in the repeat presidential elections.
Speaking separately on Tuesday, the MPs claimed that NASA leader Raila Odinga's move to pull out of the race had not taken them by surprise.
They asserted that from the onset NASA looked unprepared for the elections, despite winning its petition against President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection at the Supreme Court.
"It has been clear that he is not ready for the repeat election," nominated MP Gideon Keter noted.
Others, led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Kieni's Kanini Kega demanded that President Kenyatta be sworn in as the duly elected head of state since he did not have a competitor.
“A precedent was set in August 2014 when my name was gazetted as the Gatundu MP less than two weeks to the elections. This was after my competitor, on his own volition, opted out of the race. Since Raila has done the same, we expect IEBC to declare Kenyatta elected unopposed,” Kuria pointed out.
