A council of elders in Teachers estate in Nakuru town has welcomed the passing of a new alcohol law that will help reinforce the national Alcohol and Drinks Control law.
Speaking in the estate today the Secretary General of Teachers Estate Council of Elders Paul Ogega said the bill will help residents have a control over illicit brew sellers who abet crime and also check the local law enforcers who also abet the crimes by receiving bribes.
According to the elder the law that was sponsored by Turi Ward Member of the Nakuru County Assembly Michael Wang’ombe dabbed ;Alcohol and Drinks Bill,2014 will help residents force local law enforcement bosses discipline corrupt police officers and Chiefs who receive bribes from illicit brews dealers.
He said the illicit brew dealers collude with criminals while police receive bribes from them hence making it difficult to eradicate crime and illicit brew menace. “We congratulate the county assembly for the passing of this law. We will now take its advantage to restore law and order in our community because police and chiefs have been taking us for aride,’’ said Ogega adding that the elders will sensitize the contents of the new law to residents so that they can act in accordance in line with it.
