Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has rubbished the opposition NASA's claims that the ruling Jubilee Party is intimidating independent bodies including the Supreme Court.
Speaking on Citizen TV Tuesday,Kindiki who was elected into office on the Jubilee ticket said that his side has nothing against independent institutions maintaining that it has trust and respects the bodies.
He said that the recent scenario where President Uhuru Kenyatta who also doubles up as the party boss launched an attack on the Supreme Court following it's nullification of his re-election is simply a case of disagreement which cannot be translated to intimidation and mistrust.
''We respect our independent institutions including the Supreme Court despite our recent disagreement. We similarly respect the IEBC hence the reason why we have not commented on the ongoing changes in the commission. We also have complete trust in both as they are recognized under the constitution,'' said the Senator.
He also bashed NASA over it's involvement in the IEBC's woes saying that the alliance should appreciate the commission's independence and let it work.
''Our colleagues should stop interfering with IEBC and let it work. Our institutions have to be insulated from political pressure,'' he said.
