Garissa parliamentary seat aspirant Farah Maalim has appealed to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to guarantee fair and credible August 8 polls.

Maalim says that the Wafula Chebukati led commission has to assure Kenyans of free, fair and credible elections.

Maalim said that IEBC has to put in place proper mechanism that will guarantee fairness in the polls.

“The IEBC has to assure Kenyans and aspirants seeking political seats of free and credible polls,” he said during an interview on NTV on Sunday.

The former National Assembly Deputy Speaker said that the August polls will be peaceful if the process will be conducted a fair process.

Maalim at the same time urged the IEBC to conduct intensive vote awareness campaigns ahead of the polls.

He observed that many Kenyans are not familiar with the electoral process three months to the polls.

“We are concerned that the electoral body is yet to launch vote awareness campaigns with only three months left to the polls,” he said during the interview.

The IEBC has been under criticism from a section of politicians over its preparedness in regards to the August 8 polls.

The commission however says that it’s within timeliness to conduct polls. The electoral body is expected to start voter verification process in the next two weeks.
