A section of Ndumberi youth in Kiambu county want Governor William Kabogo to suspend planned installation of Wi-Fi in the county and instead give them jobs.
Speaking to this reporter at Ndumberi trading center on Thursday , the youths accused Kabogo’s government of lacking priority.
“We are concerned because there is no way the Kiambu government will use millions to install WI-FI when we (youths) don’t have jobs,” said Simon Karume, a youth in Ndumberi.
Mr Karume claimed that many youths in the area were languishing in unemployment.
The youths asked Governor Kabogo to set his priority right and focus on most important things.
“The idea of introducing WI-FI is good but Kabogo should first address key issues like youth employment and road repairs,” said Susan Gakii, a youth in Ndumberi.
“It is ironic to have WI-FI when the roads and other social amenities are pathetic,” she added.
The youths urged the Kiambu government to engage them in development.
They said that the county promised to address their pleas but it has failed.
On Wednesday, Governor Kabogo said that the county had partnered with Liquid Telcom limited to install WI-FI in the county.
Kabogo said that the move is part of the county government plans to integrate technology into service delivery.
He said that the installation will be done in phases with the first phase targeting Thika, Ruiru, Kiambu and Kikuyu.
The planned installation of WI-FI in Kiambu has received criticisms with a section of leaders terming it as a misplaced priority.
