A section of leaders in Kiambu County have promised to sue the government over failing to protect lives and property of Kenyans and failing to make an arrest to people who killed members of Utheri Wa Lari Land Buying Company last Saturday.

Led by the County Women Representative Annah Nyokabi who was speaking at Kimende on Friday during the burial of Kibunja Gitau 72 who was killed during the skirmishes, she said that Kiambu leaders will not sit back and watch their people displaced and vacated from their original homes.

“We will not sit back and see our people being displaced from their land the State should protect the interest of our citizens,” said Nyokabi.

She accused the county government for failing to protect investors who bought the land in early 1980s and has urged the government to respect their title deeds.

She said that every Kenyans have rights to own land in any part of the country and it is the work of the State to protect its people plus their property.

Lari MP Mburu Kahangara who was at the same burial said that it is injustice for people to be denied access to their property by their fellow Kenyans.

The legislator urged the government to build a police station in the area to provide safety to avoid repetition of similar incidents in the future.

According to Nyokabi, the president has assured mourners that the government will provide security and they will be vigilant in taming the perpetrators.

Lari Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Bernard Kinyua has urged the area residents to remain calm adding that the police are working towards finding justice and a lasting solution to the land dispute issue.
