The County Government of Nyamira will have an extra job to do following persisting demands by Gesima residents to build a modern market the small trading center.
A section of residents blamed the county leadership of overlooking the region despite its potential in improving the economy of the region.
They said the market is strategic and its construction is long overdue since national leaders led by retired President Mwai Kibaki and CORD leader Raila Odinga had promised in 2007 it elevate a modern market structure during their campaigns.
“The County Government of Nyamira has a duty to build a modern market in this center. This is one of the oldest markets in the county but the defunct Municipal leadership and now the county government has ignored it completely,” said Joash Minda.
“I want to inform the county government that even national leaders had identified the place as strategic for trading and promised to make our dream a reality,” added Festus Ondieki while mentioning Odinga and Kibaki.
They asked the county government to survey the market and commence the construction since they face a lot of difficulties when trading in extreme sunshine conditions or rainy season.
“I know they have a potential to construct a world class market here and that is what we want them to do. It is extremely cumbersome for us to trade in sunshine and rainy conditions,” Mr. Ondieki added.
