Education CS Fred Matiang'i has been asked to intervene and help stop the closure of Kisii University's Nyamira and Keroka campuses.
The two branches, both in Nyamira County, are set to be closed in January 2017 by the Ministry of Education to comply with the government's directive.
Speaking on Tuesday in Keroka town during the protests, Charles Okemwa, urged Matiangi to help stop the campuses' closure to allow them time to complete their courses.
“We will continue demonstrating until our grievances are addressed. We don’t want our campuses to be closed ,” said Okemwa.
“Let this information reach the CS Matiangi that we want our campuses back since they are close to us. Some of us come from poor families and if the campuses are shut, it will affect our studies," he added.
The sentiments were echoed by Kuppet secretary, Nyamira branch Edward Obwocha who challenged Gusii region leaders to champion for the campuses to remain open.
