With tension gripping parts of Nakuru County following increased land disputes in the last two months, church and community leaders have been asked to help in the mediation process.
National Transport and Safety Authority chair Lee Kinyanjui said Tuesday it is worrying to have feuds at this time with 2017 general election just months away.
“It is worrying to have communities fight each other over land. My take is to all leaders to play their role and end these fights because we do not want bloodshed in 2017 when we will have our elections. We want peaceful elections and this is the time to start fostering peace,” he stated.
Kinyanjui who is eyeing the county chief executive post said church leaders and elders should be actively involved in solving land dispute pitting the Ogiek, Tugen and Kikuyu communities at Ngongogeri farm on the Njoro-Molo border.
“Church and community leaders should all join hands with elected leaders and find a solution to these differences because we cannot go to elections without finding a lasting solution to these wrangles,” said Kinyanjui.
On Sunday, the chairman had asked Governor Kinuthia Mbugua together with his deputy Joseph Rutto to find a solution to the ongoing wrangles at the disputed farm.
