Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has come out guns blazing, threatening to evict forcefully electoral body commissioners if they fail to leave office within unspecified period of time.
Cord said on Monday that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had shown incompetence and was backtracking over rejection of Okoa Kenya signatures.
IEBC on Monday said it did not reject Okoa Kenya signatures because of their structure, but because they were not found in the voters register.
However, last week Thursday, while defending its decision of rejecting the signatures, the commission presented to the media signatures that resembled drawings of animals such as rabbits and pigs that were allegedly presented by Cord for verification.
“This purported clarification is baffling but consistent with the IEBC’s double face and battered character. That was also consistent with the incompetence that plagues IEBC. In its characteristic confusion, the IEBC is now trying to backtrack. This too is typical. In IEBC, everything is always a shifting and moving target,” said Cord.
The opposition coalition further said IEBC can never state with certainty the number of voter registers and even the number of registered voters because its commissioners are incompetent.
“In 2013, even the number of votes presidential candidates scored in various polling stations kept shifting,” said Cord.
